Herbert V. Johnson
Herbert V. “Herb” Johnson resides in Houston, TX. Herb received a bachelor’s in 1978 in civil engineering and master’s in geotechnical engineering in 1981 from Mississippi State University. He was awarded the College of Engineering Alumnus of the Year in 2014 and the National Alumnus of the Year in 2017. Herb is President of HVJ Associates, Inc., with offices throughout Texas. He founded the firm in 1985, which is one of the largest minority-owned engineering companies in Texas. The Greater Houston Partnership recognized HVJ Associates as one of the 100 small companies having the greatest impact on Houston business. Inc. magazine cited as the firm of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the nation.
He created an engineering scholarship endowment named in memory of his parents, Jessie and Sarah L. Johnson. This scholarship works to impact African-American students in the Bagley College of Engineering.
